Another golden day for our military athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympics

 

 

PARIS (FRA) – On the fourteenth day of medal events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, military athletes from the CISM Member Nations continued to leave their mark with inspiring performances across various disciplines.

In track and field, the Dominican Republic’s 2nd Lieutenant Marileidy Paulino delivered a historic performance in the Women’s 400m, claiming the gold medal with a time of 48.17 seconds. Paulino not only secured first place but also established a new Olympic record, further solidifying her status as one of the premier athletes in the sport.

Brazil also had a standout moment in women’s beach volleyball. Sergeants Eduarda Santos Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Silva Ramos emerged victorious in a thrilling gold medal match against the Canadian duo of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson. The Brazilian pair secured the title after a nail-biting three-set battle, with scores of 26/24, 12/21, and 15/10. In the same event, Swiss Privates Esmée Böbner and Zoé Vergé-Dépré earned a respectable fifth place, representing their nation with pride.

Italy’s military athletes displayed strong performances as well. In the Men’s 4x100m relay, Corporals Matteo Melluzzo, Lorenzo Patta, Filippo Tortu, and Lamont Marcell Jacobs secured fourth place, achieving a new season best time of 37.68 seconds. Although just 0.18 seconds shy of the gold medal, the Italian team proved their competitiveness on the global stage.

In the Men’s Triple Jump, Italy’s Corporal Andy Diaz soared to a bronze medal finish with a leap of 17.64 meters, marking his season-best performance. This impressive jump placed him just 22 centimeters behind Spain’s Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun, who took gold.

Sergeant Alisson Brendom Alves dos Santos from Brazil claimed the bronze medal in the Men’s 400m Hurdles, crossing the finish line in 47.26 seconds. Despite falling short of the top spot by 0.80 seconds, Santos’ performance was a testament to his consistency and determination.

The Ukrainian duo in the Women’s Canoe Double 500m, including OR-6 Anastasiia Rybachok, captured the silver medal with a time of 1:54.30. Their performance placed them a close second, just 1.49 seconds behind the gold medal-winning team from China.

Austria’s OR-4 Jakob Schubert climbed to a bronze medal in the Men’s Boulder & Lead Sport Climbing event, with a score of 139.6 points. Schubert’s technical prowess and composure were evident as he competed against the world’s best, finishing just behind Britain’s Toby Roberts.

Throughout the day, several other military athletes achieved noteworthy performances, including a fourth-place finish in the Women’s 3m Springboard Diving by Italy’s Corporal Chiara Pellacani and a strong showing in the Men’s 10km Marathon Swimming by France’s Second-Maître Marc Antoine Olivier, who placed seventh.

In boxing, Brazil’s Sergeant Keno Marley Machado secured a commendable fifth place in the Men’s -92kg category. Italy’s Corporal Milena Baldassarri showcased her grace in Rhythmic Gymnastics, finishing eighth in the Women’s Individual All-Around with a total score of 129.700 points.

In weightlifting, Caporal Romain Imadouchene of France placed ninth in the Men’s -89kg category with 351 points, while Soldat de 1ère Classe Marie-Josèphe Fegue also from France, claimed fifth place in the Women’s -71kg category with a score of 243. Brazil’s Sergeant Amanda da Costa Schott followed closely, finishing eighth with 229 points.

Armenian Private Arsen Harutyunyan fought valiantly in Wrestling, securing seventh place in the Men’s -57kg category.

In sailing, Italy’s Corporal Riccardo Pianosi just missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in the Men’s Kite event. Meanwhile, France’s Quartier-Maître de 2e Classe Axel Mazella and Brazil’s Sergeant Bruno Chaves Costa Lobo Ferreira finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

As the Olympic Games approach their final days, the military athletes of the CISM Member Nations continue to inspire with their determination, sportsmanship, and exceptional performances. With two more medals days yet to come, the world watches with anticipation as these athletes strive for excellence on the global sporting stage.
